The Down Syndrome Center of Kampala is a dedicated resource center providing support, education, and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome and their families in Uganda. About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Speech-Language Pathologist to collaborate with our team and provide vital services to children and adults with Down syndrome. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals develop their communication skills, improve their speech clarity, and overcome challenges related to language and swallowing.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment: Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments to identify individual needs and develop tailored intervention plans.
Therapy: Provide individual and group therapy sessions to address speech sound disorders, language delays, fluency difficulties, and swallowing disorders.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with families, educators, and other healthcare professionals to create a supportive and integrated approach to intervention.
Training and Education: Provide training and education to families and caregivers on strategies to support communication development at home and in the community.
Advocacy: Advocate for the communication needs of individuals with Down syndrome, promoting access to services and inclusive practices in educational and community settings.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of assessments, interventions, and progress, ensuring compliance with professional standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
Valid professional license and registration.
Experience working with individuals with Down syndrome or other developmental disabilities.
Strong understanding of speech and language development in individuals with Down syndrome.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Passion for working with individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
Culturally sensitive and adaptable to the Ugandan context.

Patients would be referred for evaluation and treatment in SLP’s already established clinic space and pay standard rates.
