Healthcare Centered Community Development

Beyond the operating room: A new vision for global surgery

Upasuaji International envisions thriving communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, achieved through equitable access to life-changing surgical care and the empowerment of local healthcare providers.

Global surgery initiatives have struggled to address the complex surgical care access crisis. Upasuaji International proposes a new approach: Healthcare Centered Community Development (HCCD).

This model, inspired by the historical role of central institutions in nurturing strong communities, envisions building communities around health centers. This approach focuses on improving access to care, creating jobs, developing infrastructure, and promoting education, ensuring a sustainable solution to the global surgery crisis.

The Down Syndrome Centre of Kampala is an initiative of Upasuaji International and will serve as a resource center providing support, education, and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome and their families in Uganda. We are committed to promoting inclusion, empowering individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential, and fostering a society that values and celebrates diversity. SEE MORE
